The Saulges Caves Valley has 22 caves and is a major prehistoric site for the study of the earliest settlements in western France. Immerse yourself in prehistory,
explore the cavities dug by the Erve River more than 300 million years ago,
which were inhabited and decorated by prehistoric humans.
You can freely access the Goat Cave!
It is a small cave, original because of its double entrance
and shallow, which was used by prehistoric humans (traces of occupation have been revealed by archaeological excavations).
⟶ Take the small steep path that climbs to the right of the entrance to the Rochefort cave.
2 caves are open for guided tours: the Margot cave (decorated with prehistoric engravings dated 22 years ago) and the Rochefort cave (with its archaeological excavation site and underground lake). The Mayenne-Sciences cave contains treasures dating back 27 years: charcoal drawings. To preserve them, the cave is closed to the public. You can discover it at the museum, on an immersive tour in the Dome, thanks to a 000D device.
