Holorigins
Discover an augmented reality exhibition on prehistoric myths: an interactive exhibition that uses the latest technology to poetically present the latest scientific theories about cave art. Thanks to mixed reality headsets, the statuettes come to life as Venus tells you about the beliefs of her people.

Holographic showcase
Along the museum's journey, a slightly different showcase stands out... Since 2024, this holographic showcase has been displaying objects from the museum's collections and cave porches in the valley! These 3D models have been meticulously digitized and then integrated into a hologram.

Interactive digital terminal
A few steps away, an interactive digital terminal lists all the engravings discovered in the Margot Cave, highlighting the artistic and symbolic expressions of prehistoric populations. Tap on an engraving, and the outline will appear above!

Back to the past
New : we're going even further by offering you the chance to discover the Rochefort cave archaeological excavation site equipped with mixed reality glasses, which allow you to see the mediator and the space while having an overlay of holograms that appear according to the guide's explanations! This will allow you to better situate the elements discovered by the archaeologists.

3D reconstruction of the Mayenne-Sciences cave
In the middle of the exhibition, the Dome presents the caves Mayenne-Sciences immersive way: dive into the depths of this cave closed to the public which contains drawings of bison, horses, mammoths, etc. made around 27 years ago.
Take control of your visit: you choose where you want to move within the cave using a joystick. This way, you can explore every corner of the wall, as if you were there.

Video game "The Prehistoric Trap"
Developed in-house, this video game is the museum's first digital tool! An interactive and immersive experience: put on the headset, start the journey using your fingerprints, grab the controller, and watch the impressive engine of the time machine light up and start working...
The aim is to invite reflection, to question what Prehistory could have been like and thus to seek answers in the museum's display cases.

From what age can we do digital animations?
Activities using virtual and augmented reality headsets are accessible from age 10. Other activities can be done at any age, under adult supervision.
Is it dangerous for your health to use a virtual reality headset?
Using a virtual or augmented reality headset is not harmful to your health . You might experience some discomfort if used for extended periods, but our activities never last more than 20 minutes. Therefore, there is no risk.
The use of a virtual reality headset is not recommended for people with epilepsy.
How long does the museum visit last?
A self-guided tour of the Prehistory Museum lasts approximately 1 hour.
Is the museum accessible to people with reduced mobility?
The museum is accessible to everyone : people with reduced mobility, all disabilities, strollers… Easy-to-read and easy-to-understand guides are available at the museum reception upon request.
Do I need to book to visit the museum?
It is possible to visit without a reservation (unless the visit is combined with a cave tour). For guided tours (according to the schedule ), a ticket must be booked in advance.
What are the museum's opening hours?
Visits are possible from mid-February to mid-November: check the schedule.
