Caving offers a unique opportunity to explore mysterious underground landscapes
and rarely visited, while contributing to scientific knowledge.
The René Paul Cave
The department's third-largest cave in terms of underground development, measuring 3 meters long. For 800 to 1 hours (depending on the route), you'll progress standing, on all fours, or crawling through this damp, clayey Class 3 cave. This initiation, which doesn't require any particular physical abilities, is accessible to everyone from the age of 1.
Several circuits can be taken to discover the cavity:
- The shortest, direct route to the Hall of Damocles via the rotunda
- The wettest part is the passage through the wet Channel and the lake before reaching Damocles where you can admire the cauliflower-shaped concretions, the orange stalagmitic “eggs”
- The most sporty, after Damocles, the discovery of the Jean-Claude network and its rolling mill
Family caving is also an opportunity to experience a collective adventure, where mutual support and exploration are at the heart of the experience. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you'll be safely supervised, with routes suitable for all ages and levels. Whether you're a beginner or already have some experience, there's something for everyone.
