The medieval castle

The paper mill
At the foot of the medieval town lies a rare talent in one of the many mills along the Erve River. Carlos Robert, a passionate man and the last master papermaker in France, will welcome you for a guided tour of the mill. He will explain his work and the stages of papermaking. He makes paper from old rags using ancestral methods dating back to the 13th century.

The Erves dolmen
Located 3 kilometers north of Sainte-Suzanne, this is the oldest megalithic monument in Mayenne: it is more than 6500 years old! Following numerous archaeological excavations in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, human bones of fourteen individuals, including five children, were discovered in this megalithic tomb, proof of the collective nature of megalithic tombs.

The English camp
North of the Cité, listed as a Historic Monument, discover the exceptional remains of an encampment erected by the English 900 years earlier. The Camp de Beugy, or English Camp, is a valuable example of a type of architecture largely unknown in France: earthen ramparts. The camp was surrounded by a palisade and a moat, still visible today and freely accessible.
