Small Cities of Character® is a French label awarded to small rural communities with remarkable architectural and historical heritage. This label was created in 1975 to promote these often overlooked villages, encourage the preservation of their heritage, and boost their local economy by attracting visitors.

The criteria for obtaining this label include:
- the small size of the municipality (less than 6 inhabitants)
- the presence of quality built heritage (old houses, churches, castles, etc.)
- a strong commitment from the municipality to restore and enhance this heritage
