160 routes to explore on limestone cliffs!
The Saulges climbing site in Mayenne is a major site in the west of France due to its variety and number of routes, its original configuration and its green setting.
It is a sports site meeting the FFME label including beginner and advanced areas. In place since 1988, the equipment (rings or quick links)
at the top of the routes, sealed pins) allows practice on more than 160 routes
from 10m to 25m in height.
The 5 climbing sectors
- La Prairie : The left section offers vertical and technical routes for experienced climbers. The right section (less steep) is suitable for beginners.
- La Poire : Initiation sector, where we find the highest routes of the site on the right side.
- The goat : Quiet area offering low-altitude routes, suitable for beginner groups. Special feature: the area includes two small caves.
- La Chouette : A more varied sector. On the right, an area with a few easy to medium routes. The rest of the sector is more for experienced climbers.
- The Spider : This area is suitable for experienced climbers, consisting of vertical and overhanging routes. This area contains the most difficult routes on the site.
The little extra: Ask at reception for the climbing guide, they'll lend it to you for free!
Cliff management and maintenance
The Mayenne Territorial Mountain and Climbing Committee manages the Saulges cliffs (equipment, cleaning, group management, etc.).
Each climber can also participate in cleaning the cliffs by removing grass from the holds. To avoid overcrowding, groups must inform the Committee of their visit.
If you wish to report a hazard or anything else regarding the management of the site, please contact the committee.
To organize a climbing activity or a stay for a group (leisure centers, schools, works councils, etc.) you can call on the instructors of the territorial committee.
